Allstate is a major insurer of automobiles in Alaska and nationwide. It annually ranks roughly 200 large U.S. cities in terms of car collision frequency according to its data.

In the new report, Anchorage ranked 124th.

According to the report, drivers in Anchorage will experience a collision every 8.7 years on average. That's about 15 percent more likely than the average U.S. driver, Allstate said. Last year Anchorage ranked 144th.

"We don't want drivers in Anchorage to be discouraged by their ranking. Instead, we want the report to challenge drivers in Anchorage to make positive changes to their driving habits that will in turn make the city a safer place to live, work and raise families," said Shauna McBride, regional spokeswoman for Allstate.

This year's "safest" driving city is Fort Collins, Colo., where drivers will be in an accident every 14.5 years on average, 31 percent below the national average, Allstate said. Washington, D.C., ranked last.
