His 187.38 points gave him a comfortable edge over teammate and silver medalist Joshua Farris, a 15-year-old from Renton, Wash., who won the short program but slipped to second overall with a third-place showing in the long program.

Messing, 18, is in his fourth season competing on the Junior Grand Prix circuit. He finished fourth at last season's World Junior Championships and finished ninth in his senior-level debut at last season's U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
