Tea Party Express returning to Alaska to back Miller

September 28, 2010

JUNEAU -- A national tea party group that spent hundreds of thousands of dollars supporting Alaska Senate hopeful Joe Miller will return to the state next week.

Levi Russell, a spokesman for the Tea Party Express, says the group plans to launch a new campaign in support of Miller in Anchorage on Monday.

Miller, a conservative running on a limited-government platform, upset U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski in last month's GOP primary. The California-based Tea Party Express, which reported spending more than $550,000 in support of Miller during that race, has vowed to do whatever it takes to beat Murkowski as she runs a write-in campaign.

Murkowski has called the group "extremist" and urged supporters to be ready to fight back.
