Alaska's "ground truth trekkers" -- Bretwood Higman and Erin McKittrick of Seldovia, nowadays accompanied by their toddler, Katmai -- are home from their first trip to the Chukchi Sea coast in remote Northwest Alaska, and they've got photos to share. The couple's goal is to put their science backgrounds to work in wilderness treks while examining conservation and resource development issues. When they get home, they blog and write about their observations and experiences. They even have a YouTube channel.
Before their Chukchi trip, Higman and McKittrick discussed wilderness trekking with a young child in a Daily News interview, and The New York Times profiled the yurt-dwelling couple last year.
