SITKA -- It looks like the Sitka mayor's race will be decided by just two votes.

A recount Tuesday added one vote for John Stein, but Cheryl Westover hung onto her lead and is the apparent victor.

The election was Oct. 5. Westover led by three votes before the recount.

City Clerk Colleen Ingman tells the Sitka Sentinel that Stein picked up one vote from a ballot on which his name had been entered as a write-in candidate.

The final result was 1,493 votes for Westover, and 1,491 votes for Stein.

The Sitka Assembly is scheduled to certify election results next Tuesday.
