The mountain is the 13,895-foot Alaska Range peak in Denali National Park and Preserve that had been unnamed but had been familiarly known as South Hunter Peak. It was the state's tallest unnamed peak.
The ice field is in the Chugach Range between Anchorage and Valdez. It's massive -- totaling about 8,340 square miles, larger than six states and a bit smaller than Maryland.
The ice field encompasses the Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Nelchina, Tazlina, Valdez and Shoup glaciers in the Chugach Range.
The naming legislation was sponsored by the Alaska congressional delegation: Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Mark Begich, and Rep. Don Young.
