Police said the wreck was caused when the vehicle that hit the pole went out of control and off the road while trying to pass another vehicle. The second vehicle, a Dodge pickup, cut off the passing vehicle, police said.

Robert Farley, who was driving the passing vehicle, and Andrew Dearborn, a passenger, were treated at a local hospital for injuries.

Police said the pickup driver, who was also a student, was charged with two counts of assault and with leaving the scene of an injury accident. He was taken to McLaughlin Youth Center. Police said the driver repeatedly cut off the other vehicle as it attempted to pass him while driving out the Glenn Highway.

Two passengers in the pickup were not injured. The occupants of both vehicles knew one another, police said.
