The Republican, elected to a 20th term last month, said during the campaign that he was in line to chair a committee if the GOP regained control of the U.S. House. It has.

Young spokeswoman Meredith Kenny said subcommittee chairs haven't been decided. She said it's one of those posts -- for resources, transportation or both -- that Young desires.

She said Young remains the senior member of the resources and transportation and infrastructure committees.

Young had been under investigation for years. Before the primary, it was announced that federal prosecutors had decided not to pursue investigating him over connections to a businessman convicted of bribing state lawmakers.
