Heather Brooks won the women's event in 29:54.9.
Verrier led during the race's initial skating leg, but he wore traditional speedskating boots. Seaman, wearing ski boots with Nordic blades, had the speedier transition, which paid off in victory
"It took Adam longer to remove his skates, put on his ski boots and clip on his skies," Alaska Speedskating Club President Nancy Hiney said in a press release.
Even Verrier's Olympic pedigree wasn't enough to reel in Seaman, also a strong skier.
