Snowmachine driver dies after collision

SOLDOTNA -- A 47-year-old Soldotna man died early Wednesday night when his snowmobile was struck by a car.

George Fredrick Larion died in the crash on Brown's Lake Road.

Alaska State Troopers say the driver of the car, 59-year-old Clarence Helgevold Jr., has been charged with manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Troopers took a 911 call on the incident at 5:42 p.m.

Investigators say Larion was driving on the road and was struck from behind by Helgevold. Larion was pronounced dead at the scene.
