JUNEAU-- An Anchorage lawmaker wants to wait until a state review of the 2010 election is complete before advancing legislation that would change election law.
Chairman of the House State Affairs Committee Bob Lynn says that when the review is done, there's a possibility the committee might propose a measure of its own. The legislative session will likely be more than half through when the review is complete. There's no deadline on introducing bills.
The review was prompted by the U.S. Senate race, which featured an unprecedented write-in campaign by Sen. Lisa Murkowski. Legal challenges to the state's counting of votes held up the outcome of the race for weeks.
Bills aimed at clarifying the handling of write-in votes have been introduced, and hearings have been held on the Senate side.
