The Arctic Winter Games will return to Fairbanks in 2014, the international committee for the event announced Wednesday. The games, which feature Arctic-dwelling athletes primarily from Alaska and Canada, began in 1970 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. They are held in even-numbered years.
The week-long event, which features about 2,000 athletes, came to Fairbanks in 1982 and 1988 and was last held in Alaska in 2006, when it was hosted by Kenai.
