HOMER -- Several commercial fishing boats were destroyed in a fire at a Homer boat yard on Friday morning, according to city officials.

The Homer Police Department said the fire started early in the morning in a large workshop at the Northern Enterprises Boat Yard. The shop is used for repairing and painting fishing boats.

Four boats in the workshop Friday morning were ruined in the fire, according to the company, which said it rents out the workshop for people who need to fix their boats.

No one was hurt, according to Homer Police Chief Mark Robl .

The boat yard is on Kachemak Drive, northeast of the Homer Spit. According to the Northern Enterprises website, the boat yard comprises 30 acres and 20 buildings. The company offers year-round boat storage, haul-out service and commercial leasing for retail, office and repair shops.
