With the return of pothole season, the city encourages residents who see hazardous ones to call a pothole hot line: 343-6363. When they hear about potholes on city-maintained roads, city crews aim to repair them within 24 hours, according to a news release from the mayor's office.
The city asks those who see large or hazardous flooding on roads to call street maintenance at 343-8277. The city also urges drivers to give themselves time to react to potholes: Don't tailgate; watch vehicles ahead; slow down through pools of water.
If it's too late, and you're going to hit the pothole, the city passed on this advice from a tire manufacturing engineer: Don't brake. Roll through it. Keep tires inflated at the right level so they're not too soft.
