The string started with an accident Saturday afternoon in Turnagain Pass. It was about one-half mile off the Seward Highway near Mile 68. Troopers didn't say how the crash occurred but identified the injured man as Fred E. Wagner, 40, of Fairbanks.

Medics from Girdwood, Cooper Landing, and Moose Pass all responded and a LifeMed Alaska helicopter was dispatched. Wagner was flown to an Anchorage hospital.

Then, a father and daughter from Kasilof were rescued after problems snowmachining Saturday in the Cooper Landing area.

Pamela Doss called troopers Saturday night saying her husband, Thomas Calvin Doss, 55, and their daughter, Jana, 14, were overdue from a snowmachine trip off Snug Harbor Road. Around the same time, troopers received a report that Doss' personal locator beacon had gone off. Troopers found out that Doss had buried his snowmachine, and Jana rolled hers trying to help her father.

Troopers launched Helo 1, found the pair and took them to their campsite. No one was hurt, troopers said.

Also on Saturday night, two snowmachiners in the Hatcher Pass area were rescued by a search and rescue group after one got stuck and the other called for help, troopers said.

Randy G. Marsh called 911 around 9:21 p.m. The 58-year-old said he and his friend, Roger Hackett, 63, were snow machining on the Willow side of Hatcher Pass and that Hackett became stuck in a canyon, the report said.

Marsh left to get help. It got dark. He became disoriented. The men got separated, said trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen.

Troopers launched Helo 1. A local snowmachine search and rescue group went to help as did troopers from Talkeetna, according to troopers.

The search and rescue group found the men -- at least one of them in the Lucky Shot Gold Mine area -- just before midnight.

They were taken back to the Hatcher Pass parking area. Neither man needed medical attention, the trooper report said. Both are from Anchorage.
