Team makes offer for Ward Cove property

Published: April 5, 2011

KETCHIKAN-- A father-son team is offering $2.1 million to buy the Ward Cove Industrial property from the Ketchikan Gateway Borough for various ventures, including a commercial and industrial marina.

David and Andrew Spokely, owners of Power Systems and Supplies of Alaska, have submitted a $25,000 security check.

The bid was the only one received by the March 15 deadline for the site of the former Ketchikan Pulp Co.

The property consists of 12 lots, making up 347 acres of tidelands and uplands at Ward Cove.

Under the bid proposal, Power Systems and Supplies of Alaska would form a new corporation called Ward Cove Industries.

The Spokelys also want to launch a boat-building company, manufacturing 64-foot fuel and freight landing crafts -- the type Power Systems and Supplies uses in its business of servicing and delivering products to remote sites in Southeast Alaska.
