Photos: Aftermath of ice-jam flooding in Crooked Creek

Radio station KYUK has posted a series of high-resolution aerial photos showing the waterfront in Crooked Creek after a Kuskokwim River ice jam sent floodwaters and ice floes into the village last week. Although the water has receded and a cleanup has begun, huge chunks of ice remain on the shore. Residents who were evacuated to the nearby Donlin Creek gold mine returned Friday, KYUK reports, but many were unable to stay in their homes. KTUU reports that phone lines have been restored but many village homes and the village's only grocery store are a mess and will have to be rebuilt.
