The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported Tuesday that the threat of flooding has subsided on the Koyukuk River. An ice jam downstream of the villages of Allakaket and Alatna broke loose Sunday night, and water levels dropped.

The next village on the river is Hughes, which has flooded in past years because of ice jams below the village. But hydrologist Dave Streubel at the Alaska-Pacific River Forecast Center says the water level at Hughes is low.

Breakup on the Yukon River is going well. There have been no reports of flooding since the river ice began breaking up near Eagle on May 7.

Breakup on the Tanana River ended Thursday when the ice pushed into the Yukon River.
