JUNEAU -- Gov. Sean Parnell has declared a state disaster for communities flooded by spring breakup on the Kuskokwim River.
Parnell's declaration for Crooked Creek and Red Devil activates state disaster assistance programs, which will help fund public and individual recovery efforts.
About 66 percent of the housing in Crooked Creek has been severely damaged or destroyed by ice jams and floods earlier this month.
