The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported Friday that Murkowski's decision to vote to end the filibuster of Goodwin Liu was because she believes that judicial nominees should receive an up-or-down vote.
GOP senators have criticized the nomination of the University of California-Berkeley professor to a seat on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals as too liberal and lacking objectivity.
Thursday's vote to end the filibuster failed.
Murkowski said she would have voted against Liu's nomination if it had reached the Senate floor.
