Chugiak High's girls softball team defeated South 11-4 in the first round of the Cook Inlet Conference tournament on Monday night at Albrecht Fields, the site of the entire regional. The Mustangs (18-5) got a complete game from pitcher Ashley Van Ryn, who scattered seven hits.
Kacey Brooker went 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Brooke Dunlap, Tracie Haken and Jeff Tramp all went 2 for 4 for the winners.
Chugiak plays No. 2 seed East at 6 p.m. tonight.
West 8, Bartlett 0
Nikki Olsen tossed a no-hitter, facing only one batter over the minimum, and struck out nine leading the West girls softball team to an 8-0 CIC run-rule shortened tournament win over Bartlett Monday night.
Jamie Bingham was 2 for 2 with three runs scored for the Eagles.
West, now 20-1, plays Dimond at 6 p.m. tonight.
East 14, Eagle River 0
In a game shortened to four innings by the run rule, Sydney Smith tossed a nifty three-hitter to lead the T-birds past the Wolves, 14-0.
East's Sarah Sauerbrey was 1 for 1 with a sacrifice, a hit by pitch and four RBIs. Carrie Sauerbrey was also 1 for 1 with a sacrifice fly and three RBIs. Allison Schoenborn got the MVP medal, going 1 for 3 scoring two runs and collecting two RBIs.
