Commissioner Dan Sullivan announced Thursday that Brent Goodrum would lead the Division of Mining, Land and Water; William Barron, a petroleum engineer, would lead the Division of Oil and Gas; and Kurt Gibson, who's currently deputy director of oil and gas, would take over as coordinator of efforts to build a natural gas pipeline in Alaska.

Sullivan said the positions being filled by Gibson and Goodrum had been vacant. Barron will replace will Kevin Banks, whom Sullivan said has done a good job. But Sullivan said making a change can re-energize staff and bring in a new way of thinking.

Banks is remaining with the department.
