The cause of death is unknown and police found no signs of foul play, said police spokeswoman Marlene Lammers.

The soldier, who has not been publicly identified, had not reported for physical training formation at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Tuesday morning. His supervisors couldn't reach him by phone, prompting two noncommissioned officers to visit his home in the 3500 block of East 42nd Avenue, north of Tudor Road and west of Elmore Road.

"We're waiting (for) autopsy results, and we're notifying next of kin as we speak," said Chuck Canterbury, a spokesman for the Army in Alaska.

Anchorage police are investigating the death.
