The daily limit for sockeye salmon will be three per day. The Russian River sonar count for early run sockeyes for 2010 began on June 9 last year and should be up and running soon.

Trout fishing on the Upper Kenai should be excellent. Anglers throwing leech and smolt patterns should find great action throughout the entire Kenai system. Flesh and egg patterns should produce as well. June is also a great time of year to bring Kenai rainbows to the surface with dry flies. Try big Parachute Hare's Ears and Parachute Adams.

Please remember some rainbows are actively spawning on their redds in the back channels and on fast gravel bars on the mainstem Kenai. Protect the resource by not targeting these reproducing fish.

The water level in the Kenai has been rising steadily over the past week and should start leveling out. Both the level and clarity are looking good.

Here is the quick look at the fishing prospects this week, from Mountain View Sports in Anchorage:

The Russian River opens Saturday for sockeye. There are already some fish in the river, so anglers should have a decent shot at catching a few. Make sure you obey the regulations for the fly-fishing-only waters.

Halibut and king fishing off Ninilchik and in Homer is still going strong. Try trolling for kings or jigging for halibut. Herring works as bait for both.

Up north, king fishing on the Deshka River has been hit or miss; try cured roe or K15's. Early morning is the best time. The Su has been muddy and high lately, which can make for some difficult fishing.

Urban anglers are still waiting on a more steady push of kings through Ship Creek. The fishery should be getting better every day. Try No. 5 or No. 6 Vibrax or cured roe under a bobber.
