Coast Guard officials were called at 7:30 p.m. to help with the rescue. Pyper Dixon was safely hoisted from a point 2,470 feet up the mountain about two hours later, the Coast Guard says.
It's unclear exactly when Dixon was hurt.
Known for steep climbs and dangerous descents, Mount Marathon is a 3,022-foot peak in the heart of Seward and is the site of the grueling annual trail race that goes by the same name.
As a teenager, Dixon placed among the top 20 finishers in the 2007 and 2008 junior versions of the race, which travels halfway up the mountain and back.
