AROUND THE HORN
— Andy Peterson stole home as part of a double steal and Kyle Gleason plated Trent Bridges with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, accounting for all of the runs in the game, and the Fairbanks Goldpanners swept a three-game series from the visiting Anchorage Bucs on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 triumph.
Winning pitcher Brent Clapper and reliever Nick Varriale combined on the four-hit shutout for the 'Panners.
The Bucs loaded the bases in the nin
th inning but couldn’t score, wasting a fine five-inning outing on the hill by losing pitcher Austin Boyle. Varriale picked up the save.
Davis Morgan had two hits for the Bucs, who return home at 7 p.m. tonight to host the Oceanside (Calif.) Waves in a non-league affair at Mulcahy Stadium.
— The Anchorage Glacier Pilots play their first league game at 2 p.m. today at Mulcahy Stadium, facing the Athletes in Action Fire. The Pilots will hold a meet-and-greet session for the fans after the game. Food and drinks will be served on the patio.
