Three Alaskans recently earned money in the same event at a tournament that features 58 separate events and takes place for close to two months at the Rio Casino.
Anchorage players Michael Brain, Bradley Wilson and Steven Waldron all cashed in the Seniors No-Limit Hold'em tournament that required a buy-in, or entry fee of $1,000 and drew 3,752 players. Brain, who last year won $11,105 in a WSOP event, finished 164th to earn $2,667; Wilson took 250th, worth $2,329; and Waldron's 366th-place finish copped him $1,823.
Lawrence Hill of Anchorage won $3,359 for finishing 174th in a No-Limit event that required a $1,500 buy-in and drew 2,828 entries. And Richard Muhlenbruch of Anchorage won $2,230 for finishing 225th in a No-Limit event in which 3,144 players ponied up $1,000 each.
Earlier at the WSOP, Perry Green of Anchorage won $20,564 for finishing 17th in an Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better event. That event drew 202 players, who each put up $10,000.
Ryan Schmidt of Anchorage, who last year cashed four times at the WSOP and collected a combined $62,396, is among the final 100 or so players alive in a No-Limit event that lured 1,734 players who each dropped $2,500 to enter. Schmidt also cashed twice at the 2009 WSOP.
At least 18 Alaskans cashed in at the WSOP last year.
