"This is getting ridiculous,'' Mohr said by cellphone Wednesday night. "It's bordering on the absurd.''
After all, Mohr leads the Tour in wins, overall points, Player of the Year points and earnings ($40,200) and is tied for first in cashes with six checks in six tournaments. He has delivered three victories, one second place, one third place and one fourth place.
Wednesday night, Mohr won the PBA Senior Northern California Classic in Brentwood, Calif., one week after securing his first major title with a victory in the Senior U.S. Open in Las Vegas. Wednesday's title marked the sixth of Mohr's career on the Senior Tour.
After qualifying sixth, Mohr in the championship match beat qualifying leader Hugh Miller of Seattle, 223-215, to earn the $8,000 top prize at Harvest Park Bowl.
Victory did not come without peril, though.
Mohr, 55, trailed Mark Williams two games to one in the best-of-5, match-play round of 16, and rallied to win the last two games and advance. In the best-of-3 round of eight, he dropped the first game to Kent Wagner before seizing the last two games to advance to the semifinals. He knocked off Wayne Webb 223-195 to advance to the final.
Mohr said confidence gained during his sizzling season buoyed him.
"The mind is an amazing thing -- you just start expecting good things,'' Mohr said.
In the championship match, Miller generated three strikes in the final frame, which meant Mohr needed two strikes to win. He threw a strike on his first ball but seemingly left the 10-pin standing on his second ball -- until, remarkably, a felled pin ricocheted across the lane from left to right and took out the 10-pin for the strike that guaranteed victory.
"For a second, I thought, 'Well, this has been an incredible run, second's not bad, I guess I used up my nine lives,' " Mohr recounted. "Then, something, somewhere, spun it out and knocked it down.''
Mohr improved to 6-1 in Senior Tour championship matches.
The next event on the Senior Tour is the USBC Senior Masters in Columbus, Ohio, July 31-Aug. 5. But Mohr said he will skip that event to attend the wedding of his stepson, Justin, and return to the tour for the Senior Lake County Open, Aug. 8-11, in Hammond, Ind.
