WorkStart Employment Services, owned by Sara DeCoster, now serves the Anchorage area and all of Southwest Alaska. The agency's services include resume writing, job search and application assistance, personal and professional development, credit and financial counseling and small business development in partnership with Denali Business Development. DBD, also owned and operated by DeCoster, assists new businesses and helps those who wish to start their own business.
DeCoster has an MBA from the University of Phoenix, and training in the financial services and human resources fields.
She is assisted by Kathleen Chambers, who is based in Mat-Su. Chambers has a Bachelor of Arts degree in social services from the University of Oregon and human resources training.
Porcaro ad firm acquires Lyford
Longtime Anchorage advertising firm Porcaro Communications has acquired Lyford Strategy and Communications, another Anchorage advertising and public relations agency.
Owner Mike Porcaro said the acquisition will bolster the services and expertise he can offer to clients. Porcaro's current clients include GCI, the Alaska Railroad, Shell, Arctic Slope Regional Corp. and Alyeska Resort.
Lyford Strategy and Communications has operated in Anchorage for more than 10 years and has serviced clients in mining, energy, health care, retail sales, and nonprofits. The firm has expertise in political campaigns and public affairs, where clients have included major industry trade groups, elected officials and candidates for federal, state and local office.
