AROUND THE HORN
-- Cam Kneeland's two-run base hit in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Mat-Su Miners a 3-1 win over the Peninsula Oilers at Hermon Brothers Field and possession of first place in the Alaska Baseball League.
Stephen Branca and Tim Zier scored the winning runs for the Miners, breaking a tie between the Miners and Pilots atop the ABL standings.
Matt Applegate (2-0) picked up the win. Oilers pitcher Cameron McVey (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season.
-- Jake Valdez doubled and scored during a four-run, third-inning rally Thursday, helping the Anchorage Bucs earn an 8-3 victory over the Anchorage Glacier Pilots in an ABL game at Mulcahy Stadium.
Bucs starting pitcher Javier Martinez allowed two earned runs over five innings, striking out five in the win. Logan Davis led the Bucs hitters with three hits, two RBIs and a run.
