AROUND THE HORN

-- The Mat-Su Miners and Athletes In Action Fire split an Alaska Baseball League doubleheader Tuesday at Hermon Brothers Field. The Miners took the first game 4-0, and the Fire used a late-inning rally to steal the second game 3-1.

In the second game, it was Scott Kalamar's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning that vaulted the Fire into a 2-1 lead, and then Chris Talley's double drove in Kalamar to provide the winning margin. Taylor Aikenhead (3-1) picked up the win, and Jeff Gonzales (0-1) suffered the loss.

-- Joe Winterburn's solo home run in the top of the fifth inning capped a six-run explosion for the Anchorage Bucs, who went on to beat the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 6-2, in an Alaska Baseball League game at Mulcahy Stadium on Tuesday.

Braden Shipley picked up the win for the Bucs, and Paul Moeller took the loss for the Pilots.
