AROUND THE HORN
-- The Peninsula Oilers grabbed a share of first place in the ABL with a dramatic 3-2 win over the Mat-Su Miners, who owned sole possession of the lead entering Saturday's game in Kenai. Manny Acosta's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning gave the Oilers a 3-1 lead and proved crucial when the Miners rallied in the ninth. Mat-Su scratched out a run on an error, a walk and consecutive fielder's choices but ended the game with two runners on base.
-- Cael Brockmeyer stole home and drove in two runs to lift the Pilots past AIA 7-4 in the first ABL game played in Eagle River. AIA outslugged the Pilots 13 hits to 8 and had the bases loaded with one out in the final inning but Pilot outfielder Kevin Hall ended things with a double play, throwing the runner at first out when he gloved a fly ball.
-- The Fairbanks Goldpanners breezed to a pair of victories in the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament in Kamloops, British Columbia. The Goldpanners beat the Northwest Honkers 9-5 and whipped the Everett (Wash.) Merchants 9-1.
