Little Explorer's Wilderness Survival Camp, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Meadow Lakes Senior Housing, 1012 N. Kim Drive, Wasilla. A hands-on program with fun activities to introduce young children to basic survival skills that all Alaskan children should know. Wild Salmon On Parade Walk, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Anchorage Museum, 625 C St. The Anchorage Volkssports Club is sponsoring a 5-K and 10-K walk starting from The Anchorage Museum between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and finishing no later than 3:30 p.m. A group start begins at 11 a.m. The route will take you by a series of Salmon Plaques and displays. Moose Nugget Regatta, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Newcomb Park on Wasilla Lake. Sponsored by the Anchorage Rowing Association, the regatta features 1,000 meter sprints open to all teams and individuals. Close to 100 adults and juniors from Southcentral Alaska are expected to compete. More than 20 races are scheduled. Warmups are at 9:30 a.m. and races start every 10 minutes, starting at 10 a.m. Racers may compete in up to four events and will earn medals for first place finishes. Guided Wildflower Walk, 11 a.m., Eagle River Nature Center, 32750 Eagle River Road. Join naturalist Ute Olsson for a 3 mile walk along the Albert Loop Trail to explore July wildflowers. Southbound Shorebirds, 8 a.m., Westchester Lagoon parking lot. A high tide will allow for close up viewing along the Coastal Trail of migrant shorebirds. On-Location Photography Workshop, July 22-24, Retired Anchorage Daily News photographer Jim Lavrakas will show students how to make the best of outdoor locations and natural lighting to make dramatic and emotive portraits. The workshop includes instruction, water taxi transportation from Homer, meals, rustic accommodations in large, platform wall tents, and trips to Seldovia and Red Mountain. Fly-fishing class, July 30-31, The Murie Science and Learning Center, Denali National Park & Preserve. A two-day hands-on exploration of fly tackle, casting, fly fishing in local waters, and more. An indoor classroom portion on Saturday morning will be accompanied by river and lakeside instruction. Participants must provide their own current State of Alaska Sport Fishing license, waders, sleeping bag and field clothing. Fly fishing tackle will be available for use.
