AROUND THE HORN

-- Charlie Gillies pitched a shutout for the Athletes in Action Fire on Wednesday at Mulcahy Stadium, blanking the Anchorage Bucs 7-0 in an Alaska Baseball League game.

Gillies (4-1) struck out nine, increasing his league-leading strikeout total to 35. He allowed four singles and issued two walks.

Taylor Oldham produced a two-run homer off Bucs starter Matt Sims (2-2) in the second inning, and the Fire rallied for five runs in the fifth inning.

-- Mulcahy Stadium will be loaded with ABL action this weekend, hosting three games Friday, three games Saturday and the all-star game Sunday.

The Bucs get things started when they host the Peninsula Oilers at 1 p.m., Friday, and then the Pilots host games at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday's games are scheduled for the same start times.

Sunday's all-star activities begin with a home-run derby at 2 p.m., followed by the all-star game at 4 p.m.
