Dipnetter, 71, dies after fall into Kenai River

SOLDOTNA -- A 71-year-old man has died after falling into the Kenai River while dipnetting.

Kenai Police Sgt. Ben Langham tells KSRM radio that Edwin Ruff was dipnetting near the Warren Ames Bridge when he fell in Tuesday morning.

Other dipnetters were performing CPR when rescuers arrived.

He was pronounced dead after arriving at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna.

Ruff is an Alaska resident who spends his summers traveling the state. He spends his winters in Olympia, Wash.
