AROUND THE HORN
-- Six Anchorage Glacier Pilots pitchers combined to shut out the ABL-leading Kenai Peninsula Oilers on three hits Monday night for a 2-0 win at Mulcahy Stadium.
Despite the defeat, the magic number for Peninsula to clinch the 2011 ABL title was reduced to three as the second-place Bucs also lost.
Any combination of Bucs losses or Oilers wins adding up to three clinches the pennant for Kenai.
Ismael Castro, the second Pilots pitcher was the winner with Trevor Bayless hurling the ninth for his league-leading seventh save.
-- The Mat-Su Miners crept to within one-half game of second place and damaged the Bucs pennant chances with an 8-4 victory Monday night at Hermon Bros. Field.
Designated hitter Kevin Lum and home run derby champ Adam Martin each had two RBIs to pace an 11-hit Miner attack, making Jeff Gonzalez (1-2) a winner for the first time this summer.
Starting pitcher Bradley Drust (0-6) remained winless for the Bucs, who staged a late rally after falling behind 8-0.
