The trail will be resurfaced during that period. It has stretches with long, longitudinal cracks that some cyclists call "alligator cracks" for their potential to cause a crash, said parks superintendent Holly Spoth-Torres.
There will not be a detour because of the trail's isolation and nearness to an airport runway, a bluff and a water treatment facility.
The cost is estimated at $80,000. The money is coming from the Parks Department's regular budget, said Spoth-Torres.
These repairs -- from Mile 4.1 to 5.1 -- are the start of a multiyear plan to rehabilitate the popular trail, the city said. The so-called "blue bridge" at Mile 6.6 is also scheduled to be resurfaced this year.
Mileposts for the Coastal Trail start with zero at Westchester Lagoon.
