JUNEAU -- The Coast Guard has rescued a logger who suffered a chainsaw injury.

Officials say 55-year-old Nick Brazil was injured under his right underarm Thursday. His co-workers were able to stop the bleeding, but requested a medevac. There are no medical personnel at Hetta Logging Camp near Hetta Lake, about 17 miles east of Hydaburg.

The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter from Sitka. A rescue swimmer and a flight surgeon were lowered to prepare Brazil for transport.

He was taken to the Ketchikan Medical Center in stable condition.
