The state Division of Forestry and the Anchorage Fire Department are focusing their cleanup on the Stuckagain Heights and Prospect Heights areas.
KTUU-TV says crews have spent several days cutting down trees.
After cutting the trees down and sectioning them up, crews put them in piles and burn them.
Crews go through the same procedure every year, but the work is usually done in the fall.
This year, however, crews are tackling the job early because of an early fire season in Alaska and the Lower 48.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
