Gary Murdoch fired a three-over-par 75 to take a one-stroke lead over Ross Walther in the first round of the state senior golf championships at Chena Bend in Fairbanks. Cable Starlings is two strokes back at 77. In women's play, Jeri Lynn Powers and Linda Gustafson share the lead at 87, with Teresa Fisher a stroke behind.
