Kenai Watershed Forum executive director Robert Ruffner told the Peninsula Clarion that samples showed substantially less parts per billion than allowed by the standard.
The paper reported Monday that testing over several days in July showed 2.5 parts per billion, substantially less than the standard 10 parts per billion.
The Kenai River was placed on the Impaired Waters list in 2006 due to excessive hydrocarbon levels in July. In 2010, the river was removed from the DEC Impaired Waters list because of two consecutive years meeting the water standards, which has been attributed to regulations that require cleaner burning motors on the river.
