Patties and pie

Marian Beck will sign copies of her new book, "Salmon Patties and Rosehip Pie Cookbook: Art, Food, and Coastal Life in Halibut Cove Alaska," at a reception at 2 Friends Gallery at 5 p.m. today. It's the first book release event with an artist for the gallery at 341 E. Benson Blvd. The book includes 30 of Beck's paintings and 60 recipes -- some of which will be available for tasting.

New York magazine photographer Jennifer Boomer thought her stint in Dutch Harbor would be fleeting. Instead she fell for the gusty, wet and weird place and set about capturing it with her camera. "Greetings from Dutch Harbor" opens today at SubZero Microlounge, 612 F St. Boomer has shown work in galleries from New York to Berlin, but this marks her first show in her new hometown.

Season revealed

Out North's "Season Revealing Party" will take place starting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, with food, beverages, entertainment and an auction for desirable items like K.D. Lang tickets and Alaska honey. Tickets for the event are $35 at the door of the culture center, 3800 DeBarr Road, or in advance by calling 279-8099.
