7 on grounded Alaska tour boat rescued

The Coast Guard says seven passengers on board a Southeast Alaska tour boat were rescued after the vessel went aground. The master of the 78-foot Northern Song and three crew members stayed on board the vessel, which was later refloated. It was heading to its homeport in Petersburg, with an expected arrival late Friday.

The Coast Guard says there were no reported injuries when the boat went aground near shore early Friday in Deep Cove on the southeast side of Baranof Island. Petty Officer Charly Hengen says the grounding occurred about 74 miles southeast of Petersburg.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew landed nearby and the passengers took an inflatable raft to shore. They were flown to Ketchikan before the Northern Song was refloated and inspected by the Coast Guard.
