FAIRBANKS -- A 68-year-old Fairbanks woman remains in jail after a judge said he could not release her to a third-party custodian. Yiki Kim is accused of running over an 11-year-old boy with her car and killing him as he walked to school on Aug. 30. Police say Kim ran a stop sign and failed field sobriety tests.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says Superior Court Judge Randy Olsen on Thursday did not release Kim to the care of her husband or her daughter. Prosecutors say that is because they are both among 20 to 30 potential witnesses, making them ineligible to be third-party custodians.
Kim is charged with manslaughter and reckless driving in the death of Jamison Thrun.
