Witnesses tell police a car just before 3 a.m. was driving north on Arctic Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it crashed into a sport utility vehicle turning east onto Benson Boulevard.

The car sheared off a power company switchbox, came to rest in a parking lot and burst into flames.

Passers-by pulled out a woman passenger with serious injuries.

The man driving was pinned inside and suffered severe burns to his face and chest. He was flown to a Seattle hospital in critical condition.
