Spiders gathered in unusual clusters at a field east of the Huffman post office recently, spreading silky thread over fireweed and other plants. Fairbanks spider expert Brandi Fleshman, a Master's degree student, says it might have been a mass attempt to disperse themselves to a new location, a process called ballooning.
