A Fairbanks-based Stryker soldier who served a one-year tour of duty in Iraq died in Afghanistan on Sunday, the Army reported today.
Sgt. Timothy Douglas Sayne -- a 31-year-old cavalry scout originally from Reno, Nev. -- was killed by an improvised explosive device in the Kandahar Province, the Army said. Sayne had been in the Army since February 2008 and was assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Fort Wainwright in August 2008. He served a tour of duty in Iraq from September 2008 to September 2009, the Army said.
The 4,000-soldier brigade was deployed to Afghanistan in mid-April for a one-year tour
He is the 15th Stryker soldier reported killed since the April deployment.
Sayne's next of kin have been notified of his death.
