The Anchorage Assembly voted 10-1 Tuesday night in support of a law change that makes it easier to suspend the chauffeur's license of a person charged by police with sexual assault.

The one assemblyman in opposition was Patrick Flynn.

Under the law, the license of a driver of a taxi or other chauffeured vehicle can be automatically suspended if he or she used the vehicle or a work uniform to get close to the victim of a sexual assault.

Suspensions can be appealed to the chairman of the city's Transportation Commission.

Cab drivers, shuttle drivers and limo drivers all need chauffeur licenses.

The proposal emerged after the arrest of a cab driver accused of assaulting a customer Aug. 21 in an Anchorage cab service lot.
