The roughly $3,000 product has been installed on about 10 hydronic heaters in the non-attainment area ... as part of a $500,000 state grant to study and install the devices. [State Rep. Tammie] Wilson, a Republican from North Pole, obtained the grant, which she said fits into a large effort of education and voluntary measures to get the borough on track to improve before the EPA's deadline.
"We don't want people to think that this one thing will fix it," she said. "It's a combination."
An early version of the ClearStak device was tested last winter at homes near an elementary school plagued by smoke, but the borough still received smoke complaints. An improved version tried last week still didn't cut enough smoke to prevent a complaint.
