The department, in a statement, said the vaccine is targeted for adults older than 65, those at higher risk for serious flu complications and those who otherwise wouldn't have access to the vaccine.
The cost will be $40, though the department said no one will be refused service for inability to pay.
The vaccine will be available at public health centers in the following communities: Cordova, Homer, Kenai, Mat-Su, Seward, Bethel, Dillingham, Kodiak, Nome, Craig, Haines, Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Delta Junction, Fairbanks, Valdez, Tok and Kotzebue.
The department said nurses will have small supplies with them as they travel through villages.
